Privacy policy, last updated July 2026
This policy explains what data GermanyDesk processes and why. In plain English: we run a small set of free calculator tools with almost no data collection. The calculators run entirely in your browser, we set no cookies, and the only visitor measurement we use is a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool that reports aggregated numbers only. Details of everything we do, and of features that exist in the code but are currently switched off, are below.
1. Verantwortlicher (Data Controller)
Responsible for data processing on this website (Art. 4 Nr. 7 DSGVO):
2. Hosting (Vercel)
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 Pine Street, Suite 701, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA. When you visit this site, Vercel automatically collects and temporarily stores server log data including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referrer URL, and timestamp. This processing is based on Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interest in secure, stable operation).
Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For details, see Vercel Privacy Policy.
3. Cookies
This website currently sets no cookies. Your light/dark theme preference is stored locally in your browser (localStorage), a purely functional setting that never leaves your device and is not a cookie. Because no consent-requiring cookies are used, no cookie consent banner is shown.
A self-hosted, open-source consent tool (vanilla-cookieconsent) and the services it would gate (see section 6) are present in the site's code but currently switched off. Should they be activated in future, a cookie banner will appear and this policy will be updated accordingly.
4. Vercel Web Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics (provided by Vercel Inc.) to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. This tool is privacy-friendly and cookieless: it does not set cookies, does not store or use your IP address after processing, and does not create a persistent identifier that can track you across sessions or sites. It reports only aggregated, anonymous metrics (page views, referrers, country, device type).
Legal basis: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interest in understanding site usage without intrusive tracking). For details, see Vercel Analytics privacy documentation.
5. Calculator Tools
All calculator tools on GermanyDesk run entirely in your browser (client-side JavaScript). No data you enter into any tool is transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere. No account is required, and no personal data is collected by the tools themselves. This includes the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung Generator: the names, addresses, and dates you enter are used only to fill the PDF in your browser and are never sent to us.
6. Services Not Currently Active
For transparency, the following third-party services are integrated in the site's code but are not currently active and do not run, set cookies, or transmit any data unless and until they are switched on. If either is enabled, a cookie consent banner will be shown and this policy will be updated to describe the processing and its legal basis (which will be your consent, Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO, for the analytics service):
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited): additional visitor statistics beyond the cookieless analytics in section 4. Currently disabled.
- Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited): advertising. Currently disabled; no ads are served on this site.
7. Affiliate Links
GermanyDesk does not currently have any affiliate partnerships. Some tool pages contain recommendation-style links to third-party services (for example Wise, Wundertax, Feather Insurance, N26, and similar), but these components are switched off in the site's code and are not shown to visitors. Should affiliate relationships be set up in future, this section will be updated to name the specific programs, describe any tracking involved, and state the legal basis before those links go live.
8. Your Rights (Art. 15–22 DSGVO)
You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15), correct inaccurate data (Art. 16), request erasure (Art. 17), restrict processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and object to processing (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you also have the right to withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise your rights, contact us at contact@germanydesk.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 DSGVO).
9. Supervisory Authority
The competent supervisory authority depends on your Bundesland of residence. A list of all German data protection supervisory authorities is available at bfdi.bund.de.
